Mountain Theater on Mt Tam

NOT HAPPENING ON ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED DATE
I climbed Mt Tam solo on Jan 8. The Mother Bomb whispered, "Reschedule me!". The campsite is closed and several points on the trail are blocked by fallen trees. I will have to try another time in the spring
Please consider coming to the BootJack campsite <del> on Sunday </del>, my favorite way into Mt Tam. Rain or shine, it’s an amazing and quite do-able hike

Bookmark the details here, and go any time once the campsite reopens.

Starting point: 897 Panoramic Hwy Bootjack Parking Lot, California 94941
It’s about 50 minutes from Berkeley. When you turn onto Panoramic Hwy, you’ll pass the Mountain Home Inn, which is about 2 miles before you reach the parking lot for BootJack Campsite Google Maps

Carpooling? - Heck yeah! Text me and I’ll help organize group rides. Mass transit also works: bus 61, reachable via BART (El Cerrito)

What if you are at two with Nature (ie, hate hiking)?

The hike is less than 2 miles, and actually follows the “Easy Grade Trail.” Since the trailhead is at the Bootjack camp site, the kickoff meetup will be next to a parking lot. You might just come for the launch part, for bagels and shmooze

Details about the Party on TBD (rescheduling)

The BootJack campsite has picnic tables. [Alas, it’s currently closed due to bombogenesis]. The plan was to host bagels and possibly even pancakes. Expect dark chocolate as well. Everyone, friends, family, (but no dogs, sorry) welcome to the brunch. Those who are keen for hiking can go on the Easy Grade Trail to the top of Mt Tam, where there’s a beautiful Mountain Theater. The pharaohs of old annually ran the base of a pyramid to demonstrate their vitality as ruler. Those who ascend the Mountain, especially fellow silverbacks, have the option to personally prep for the centenarian decathlon ordeal.

Odds are that it could well be raining. Rain is actually great for the waterfalls, the eldritch vibe of misty mountain trails, and the reminder that life isn’t designed to always appease primates like me. The trails (and parking lot) are also much less crowded in rainy weather.

Dress appropriately, and heed Winnie the Pooh’s maxim: “No matter what the weather, Christopher Robin wanted to be in it.” Sorry to relay that Park rules forbid dogs on the trail.
